Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Location: Richmond, VA 23298 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Hospital – Respiratory Care Services (NICU, PICU, Pediatric Acute Care)
• Assignment Length: 13-week contract
• Start Date: September 1, 2025
• Shifts: 3x12-hour night shifts (19:00 – 07:00)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2130–$2190 per week
• First-time travelers welcome

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
• Minimum 1 year of recent RRT experience (2 years preferred)
• Current Virginia respiratory therapist license or compact state eligibility (30-day work authorization accepted with timely licensure completion)
• BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred
• Experience in Level I trauma center and pediatric/neonatal critical care preferred
• Ability to float within scope as needed
• Two professional references required

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care to neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adolescents in a hospital setting
• Participate in high-risk deliveries and external transports (with competency assessment)
• Operate advanced respiratory equipment, including Servo I ventilators and Puritan Bennett ventilators
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs), assist with intubations, extubations, and airway management
• Administer respiratory medications and therapies (BiPAP, HFNC, HFOV, HFJV, heliox, nitric oxide)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in NICU, PICU, and pediatric acute care units
• Document patient care using the Epic electronic health record system
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, including natural nail policy and completion of required modules during orientation
