Electrical Controls Designer

ACE Controls is seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Designer to support the design, drafting, and documentation of industrial electrical control panels and automation control systems used in custom manufacturing and process equipment applications.
This position focuses on electrical schematic drafting, control panel layout design, wiring documentation, and AutoCAD Electrical development for industrial automation systems , not residential or commercial electrical projects. ACE Controls is a Houston‑area automation and control panel company with more than 20 years of experience designing and fabricating custom industrial control panels . Our work supports industries including water and wastewater, food and beverage, and OEM process equipment manufacturing .
This full‑time, onsite position in Humble, Texas is ideal for an Electrical Controls Drafter who enjoys working closely with controls engineers, project managers, and panel fabrication teams to take control system designs from initial concept through shop‑floor execution .
Key Responsibilities
- Design and draft electrical control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and schematics for industrial automation systems
- Develop, modify, and maintain drawings using AutoCAD Electrical
- Support control panel drafting and electrical schematic documentation for new systems and existing upgrades
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure designs meet technical requirements, schedules, and customer specifications
- Perform basic load calculations, component selection, and circuit documentation
- Ensure drawings comply with NEC, UL, UL 508A, and applicable industry standards
- Coordinate with panel fabrication and assembly teams to support accurate and efficient build execution
- Revise and update drawings for system upgrades, customer revisions, and change orders
- Maintain organized, accurate, and revision-controlled design documentation
- Stay current with industrial control standards, drafting best practices, and automation technologies
- Degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Control Systems, or a related field
- Minimum of two years of experience as an Electrical Controls Drafter or Control Panel Designer
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of industrial control panels, wiring standards, and electrical components
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, relays, circuit breakers, and industrial control hardware
- Understanding of NEC, UL, and industrial electrical compliance requirements
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple drafting tasks simultaneously
- Experience drafting UL 508A control panels
- Background supporting water & wastewater, food & beverage, or industrial process equipment
- AutoCAD Electrical certification
- Experience in industrial automation or control panel drafting positions within a custom-build environment
