This is a full-time, 46-week (salaried/exempt) live-in position with 24-hour accountability.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Resident Director provides educational programming, advising, administration and supervision in a residence hall. The responsibility is to create an atmosphere conducive to learning and living and accomplish the goals of the institution, Student Life, and Residence Life.

The position of Resident Director is a physically demanding job that requires an individual to be able to respond immediately to an emergency, respond to an individual’s need, evaluate a maintenance problem, or just spend time with students. Some of our residence halls contain multiple stories and do not have access by elevator.

Administrative: Work in a professional manner with faculty, other colleagues, other professionals, and the community.

  • Serve as a liaison between the university, students, and parents.
  • Ensure that Resident Assistants are informed daily of activities, problems & occurrences in the hall.
  • Monitor and oversee programs and activities by the Resident Assistant
  • Provide students with university information through the use of bulletin boards, area meetings, and personal visits.
  • Attend Student Life meetings, retreats, and committees as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Dean of Students and Associate Dean for Residence Life.
  • Assist the Associate Dean for Residence Life in producing materials necessary for communication to residents.
  • Serve as a role model to staff and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with students, parents, university, and community.
  • Maintain the hall as an area conducive to learning within the standards set forth in the mission and purpose statement of the university and the area of residence life.
  • Follow the Faculty/Staff Handbook provided by the university.
  • Encourage the development of Christian principles in resident students.
  • Encourage good study habits, scholastic achievement, and see that wholesome conditions for study are provided and maintained
  • Spend quality time with students.

Resident Staff: Training, supervision, and coordination of assigned Resident Assistants.

  • Assist in the selection of Resident Assistants.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants.
  • Schedule and supervise duty hours as assigned by the Associate Dean for Residence Life.
  • Oversee and monitor the Resident Assistants in following and completing their duties as assigned by job description and special assignments by the administration of the university.
  • Conduct weekly training of the individual and group staff meetings to encourage personal development, specific goals and objectives.
  • Equip a team of Resident Assistants to minister intentionally to their living areas.

Hall Management: To oversee and manage the daily on-going operation of the assigned residential living space.

  • Assist the Associate Dean for Residence Life in petitioning students for paperwork as necessary.
  • Communicate and monitor housekeeping and maintenance needs in the hall.
  • Inspect the hall and monitor repairs and cleaning in preparation for the opening and closing of the halls.
  • Assist the Associate Dean for Residence Life in the opening and closing of the hall.
  • Counsel with students and give guidance when needed. Students with particular problems should be referred to the Associate Dean for Residence Life, Campus Pastor, or the Director of the Center for Counseling.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation to handle emergencies anytime the need arises 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Assume weekend, weekday, and holiday duty schedules as assigned.
  • Evacuate students in case of a disaster and stay with the group.
  • Spend extra time with students who need more or special attention.
  • Encourage prevention of damage of property and to investigate violations.
  • Oversee and report any emergencies to the Associate Dean for Residence Life immediately, including, but not limited to: police, illness, injury, hospital, and fire.

Conduct: To encourage and monitor residents in maintaining their decorum and conduct based on the university’s value system as stated in the student handbook.

  • Assist the Office of Student Life in interpreting, developing, and enforcing policies and the university value system.
  • Investigate infractions of university values and policies and impose disciplinary sanctions when necessary or refer to a higher official.
  • Ensure that the Associate Dean for Residence Life and Dean of Students are informed of cases being handled.

QUALIFICATIONS:

LeTourneau University seeks a person with a Master’s degree in Student Development or related field, an enthusiastic and maturing Christian faith who has an understanding of and is committed to the development of a dynamic, growing Christian university where the integration of faith and academic excellence is paramount.

  • Knowledge of the University’s mission, purpose and goals, and initiative in carrying them out.
  • English language and writing skills, communication skills, and speaking ability to communicate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to read and write the English language sufficiently to handle written reports, publicity, and promotion, correspondence with students, and campus guest.
  • Ability to receive and interact via the telephone on calls from students, parents, and colleagues.
