Wood is recruiting for an Estimator to join its Construction - US Onshore Operationsbusiness focusing on Oil & Gas Projects. This opportunity would be located in proximity to our operations in New Mexico, West Texas, or Colorado/Wyoming.

The Role

Wood is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Estimator to join our dynamic team based in proximity to our New Mexico, West Texas, or Colorado/Wyoming operations. The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the development of project estimates and ensuring they are prepared to the required level of detail and accuracy in accordance with contractual requirements and Wood policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Prepare, review, and submit detailed project cost estimates to support budgeting and profitability.
  • Review client RFPs, work requirements, and technical specifications.
  • Identify potential risks, develop contingency plans, and suggest solutions to minimize costs and delays.
  • Analyze and define all cost elements, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Support development of proposals, including clarifications, exceptions, and assumptions.
  • Collaborate with project teams to address challenges and ensure estimates are accurate and auditable.
  • Maintain estimating systems, data, and documentation in compliance with company standards.
  • Facilitate communication with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure alignment.
  • Support negotiations and dispute resolution related to project costs and scope.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of estimating processes and procedures.
  • This role may be standalone or act as part of a team as determined by the requirements of the project/contract organization

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities
  • Verify and approve the Basis of Estimate for project cost estimates for wider approval
  • Develop, issue, and maintain project cost estimates in accordance with the Basis of Estimate including statements of work scope, assumptions, man-hour estimates, narratives, and review & comment of client documents
  • May facilitate and chair the internal review of project cost estimates, ensuring updates are actioned and estimate approval is obtained as required
  • Review and deliver estimates to Wood management and the client for approval
  • Review and ensure updates to projects cost estimates are completed in a controlled manner
  • Liaise with other Project Controls disciplines to ensure projects budgets and schedules are developed to reflect the structure and content of the approved project cost estimate
  • Liaise with engineering, procurement, subcontract and construction functions to maintain awareness of the requirements and costs of labor, plant and equipment, materials, subcontracts, offices, IT, and other provisions, to ensure these are accurately reflected in the project cost estimate
  • Accountable for the formal filing of project and proposal estimates, the collection of project historical data and the continuous update of estimating databases and norms in a controlled manner.
  • Review and issue change orders in accordance with the appropriate change notifications
  • May Review and communicate cost and schedule impact of change notifications
  • Participate in Project Controls Compliance and Continuous Improvement Reviews
  • Ensure estimates are prepared in compliance with Wood processes, procedures, and guidelines
  • Promote the use of standard estimating systems, procedures, and work methods
  • Developing project specific estimate plans, schedules, and basis within the project team
  • Reviewing and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Performing detailed quantitative, cost, and productivity analysis
  • Plan, schedule, and lead the estimate review and presentation process
  • Presentation of the estimate to Wood and Client management
  • Maintenance and support of historical estimating databases, escalation indices, and productivity data

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

Typically requires bachelor's degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and/or industry experience)

Knowledge, skills, and experience:
  • Over 5 years of experience estimating construction projects in Oil and Gas. Knowledge of other relatable industries to oil and gas may be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques and systems with a detailed knowledge of how these are applied
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles and techniques
  • Excellent understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis & Management
