Biomedical Technician III - NW Surgery Center

The Biomedical Technician III role within the Clinical Engineering department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center supports the safe and effective use of medical, surgical, and research equipment across patient care environments. The Biomedical Technician III plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and continuity of clinical operations, with primary onsite support at the Northwest Surgery Center and travel as needed to other outpatient locations.

The Biomedical Technician III collaborates closely with clinical staff, vendors, and internal partners to deliver high-quality technical support in fast-paced clinical environments.

The ideal candidate for the Biomedical Technician III role has an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology or Electronic Engineering, hands-on biomedical technology experience supporting medical devices, and strong communication skills. Experience supporting operating room medical devices is preferred, along with a demonstrated ability to work independently, manage service coordination across multiple sites, and provide effective customer-focused technical support.

The salary range for this position is Minimum $39.66 per hour - Midpoint $49.52 per hour - Maximum $59.38 per hour, based on a 40-hour work week. The work location is primarily onsite at the Northwest Surgery Center, with travel required as needed to support additional outpatient locations.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical, surgical, and research equipment in clinical and outpatient environments
• Receive, assemble, and inspect new equipment to ensure proper function and compliance with manufacturer specifications
• Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and modify electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment
• Communicate directly with clinical clients to troubleshoot equipment issues and provide timely technical support
• Conduct and document performance assurance testing, analyze results, and determine equipment safety and accuracy for continued use
• Ensure all equipment maintenance and modifications comply with manufacturer requirements and standard published operating procedures
• Provide nursing and clinical in-services related to equipment operation and functionality
• Coordinate equipment repairs with outside vendors and internal clients as required
• Document all service activities, repairs, and modifications accurately and completely
• Assist with service contracts, pre-purchase evaluations, incident investigations, project management, travel coordination, and scheduling of service across assigned areas of support
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION
  • Required: Associate's Degree Biomedical Technology (BMET) or Electronic Engineering.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Technology (BMET) or Electronic Engineering.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 4 years Biomedical Technology experience. or
  • Required: 2 years Experience required with preferred degree.
  • May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
  • Preferred: OR medical device support, strong customer communication skills, highly motivated and accountable.
Work location : Onsite primarily at the NW Surgery Center, but travel required as needed.
