Product Manager III- Lending Decision Engine
Description
Title: Product Manager III- Lending Decision Engine
Department: Product
At Open Lending, our mission is to help financial institutions say “yes” more often—expanding access to fair and affordable credit for millions of borrowers. We do this by combining advanced risk insights with technology that makes underwriting smarter, faster, and more transparent.
We are seeking a Product Manager to own and evolve our Underwriting Engine—the core of how we evaluate, price, and insure loans. This role is perfect for a product leader excited about underwriting automation, credit bureau data, and data-driven decisioning. You’ll partner closely with our MLOps, Risk, and Pricing Modeling teams to ensure our underwriting rules are scalable, explainable, and easy to maintain.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Own the Underwriting Engine roadmap, ensuring underwriting rules are transparent, flexible, and aligned with business goals.
- Drive discovery and validation of customer problems and needs, ensuring we build solutions that create measurable value for lenders and borrowers.
- Collaborate with Risk and Data Science teams to translate advanced pricing models into production-ready decisioning frameworks.
- Partner with MLOps to streamline model deployment, monitoring, and governance.
- Leverage credit bureau and alternative data sources to unlock new insights and improve loan decisioning.
- Work with engineering to deliver reliable, scalable features that improve automation and reduce manual intervention.
- Define and track KPIs around decision accuracy, automation, and business impact.
- Partner with compliance, sales, and client success to ensure underwriting solutions meet regulatory and client needs.
- Mentor junior product managers and serve as a product domain expert within the organization.
- Present product plans and updates to executive leadership and key clients.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies that could impact our product offerings.
- Build lasting relationships with top customers and partners to gather strategic input on platform direction.
Education/Experience:
- 5+ years of product management experience in financial services, lending technology, or risk modeling.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree (MBA or MS) strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to define product outcomes, set measurable goals, and validate results, in line with modern product management practices.
- Strong understanding of credit underwriting, bureau data, and decision engines.
- Experience working with ML-driven models, MLOps, or advanced analytics.
- Ability to translate complex models into clear, maintainable business rules.
- Strong stakeholder management skills; able to influence across engineering, risk, and business teams.
- Familiarity with AI/ML tools (e.g., LLMs, model monitoring, explainability frameworks).
Preferred Skills & Competencies:
- Experience in consumer lending, credit risk management, or insurance-linked lending.
- Technical fluency (SQL, Python, APIs) to partner effectively with engineers and data scientists.
- Background in regulated environments with knowledge of compliance requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
