Senior Real Estate Accountant (ASC 842)

Our client, a growing and dynamic organization, is seeking a Senior Real Estate Accountant to join their finance team. This is a direct-hire position with a focus on managing accounting operations across multiple properties, including leases, fixed assets, and property taxes. The role provides a chance to contribute to process improvements and support strategic financial reporting.

• Employment Type: Direct Hire
• Pay: 90-110k

Responsibilities:

• Manage end-to-end accounting for a large portfolio of commercial and administrative leases, ensuring accurate recording and compliance with lease accounting standards.
• Maintain and update fixed asset records, track capital projects, calculate depreciation, and manage asset disposals.
• Oversee property tax filings and payments across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
• Lead month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis of occupancy and property-related costs.
• Collaborate with internal teams to implement consistent processes for new property setups, acquisitions, and system integrations.
• Act as a primary point of contact for auditors on lease, asset, and tax-related matters.
• Support special projects, accounting process improvements, and operational reporting initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience with a focus on real estate or multi-location businesses.
• Strong understanding of lease accounting rules (ASC 842) and fixed asset management.
• Hands-on experience with accounting platforms such as Sage Intacct, ProLease, Yardi, or MRI.
• Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Solid grasp of US GAAP principles and experience applying them in a multi-entity environment.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across finance, operations, and real estate teams.
