Athletic Fields Maintenance Technician - Full-Time

Job Summary:
The Athletic Fields Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and enhancement of various athletic fields, including soccer, football, baseball, and multi-purpose fields through tasks such as mowing, fertilizing, aerating, and repairing turf. Other duties include operating heavy machinery, painting field lines and logos according to specific dimensions, setting up and taking down equipment for games, maintaining irrigation systems, and ensuring safety and cleanliness of surrounding facilities like bleachers and dugouts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Turf Care: Mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, sodding, and repairing turf to ensure a safe, high-quality playing surface; Participate in team meetings and training sessions to maintain awareness of new techniques and technologies in turf management.
  • Field Preparation: Dragging, watering, painting lines, and setting up specific areas like pitching mounds or home plates; Inspect field conditions and assess for pest issues, disease, and other potential concerns, implementing appropriate treatment plans as needed.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operating and maintaining various power equipment, including mowers, tractors, blowers and sprayers, ensuring they are in safe and operational condition; Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and timely repairs.
  • Facility Upkeep: Cleaning and maintaining surrounding areas, including fences, bleachers, and restrooms.
  • Safety & Hazard Management: Inspecting fields for hazards, addressing them promptly, and applying pesticides and herbicides as needed; Follow all safety protocols and best practices to provide a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Event Support: Setting up and taking down equipment for practices, games, and tournaments, and sometimes serving as a point of contact during events; Collaborate with coaching staff and event coordinators to prepare fields for practices and competitions.
  • Inventory & Reporting: Managing inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, and performing record-keeping tasks; Maintain records of field maintenance activities, including schedules and treatments.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree or certification in turf management, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in athletic field maintenance or related landscaping work.
  • Knowledge of turf grass species, fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation systems.
  • Ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment such as mowers, tractors, and other machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor, operate heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.
