Nokia Core IP Network Engineer (Nokia NRS I or NRS II Preferred) - 100% Remote

TEKsystems is currently seeking an IP Network Engineer with strong Nokia experience for a 100% remote, 1 year+ contract with opportunity for extension and permanent conversion.

Role overview : Engineering design and implementation services to support the company’s IP/MPLS core network, carrier Ethernet transport systems, cellular data core systems, and/or video transmission services. Provide technical leadership and escalation support for operations and engineering groups, as well as mentorship to team members. Requires strong communication to collaborate with internal departments for reliable operation and scalable network growth.

Responsibilities

• Test new technologies and service architectures in lab environments.
• Plan, design, implement, and document new network implementations.
• Complete engineering estimates and installation packages as needed.
• Provide escalation and troubleshooting support for operations teams.
• Mentor more junior staff to grow technical knowledge and experience.
• Manage multiple projects with awareness of timelines and budget; independently complete assigned engineering projects with minimal guidance.

Essential Duties

• Plan, design, implement, and document new network implementations.
• Test new technologies and service architectures in lab environments.
• Provide escalation and troubleshooting support for operations teams.
• Complete engineering estimates and installation packages as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High-level understanding of high availability, redundancy, reliability, scalability, and security.
• Experience creating and editing network drawings (Visio).
• Advanced experience configuring Alcatel/Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper routers and switches.
• Advanced understanding of routing protocols (BGP, ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, etc.).
• Strong project management concepts and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong understanding of RSVP, LDP, and PIM; data center network design.
• Experience with Ethernet, SONET, TDM, Fiber, Microwave, Satellite, Wi-Fi, cellular, etc.; VLANs, STP, LACP, MC-LAG.
• Analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills; self-directed and collaborative.
• Certifications relevant to the discipline are highly valued.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum four years of relevant experience in a Carrier Ethernet or large ISP environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in CS, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, Telecommunications or related field required.
• Alternate combination of experience and education may substitute year-for-year.
• Graduate degree may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change.
