Staff Accountant Intern

Reports To: VP of Finance

Employment Type: Internship (Full-Time/Part-Time, 6-9 months duration)

About Us:

Urban is a leader in the heavy civil construction industry, specializing in highways, bridges, earthwork, utilities, etc. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant Intern to join our finance team. This internship provides hands-on experience in construction accounting, cost management, and financial reporting within a fast-paced project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with accounts payable and receivable processing, invoice entry, and vendor management.

· Support job cost tracking and allocation of expenses to specific projects.

· Help with monthly financial closings, reconciliations, and preparation of supporting schedules.

· Maintain and update general ledger entries under the supervision of accounting staff.

· Assist with payroll preparation and verification of timecards for project crews.

· Work with project managers to review and reconcile change orders, subcontractor billings, and cost codes.

· Prepare and analyze financial and project cost reports for management review.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.

· Perform special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Current student pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

· Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles (GAAP).

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint, Sage, or CMiC is a plus).

· Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Interest in the construction industry and willingness to learn about project-based accounting.
