Cover Letter is preferred Job Details Job Summary The Research Scientist Assistant I for the molecular neuroscience lab assists in the performance of assignments requiring a basic working knowledge of engineering or scientific methods, in such areas as research, design or experimental testing. This is a grant funded position with an expected end date of nine months from date of hire. Continuation is contingent upon funding availability. Core Responsibilities
- Handles assignments that require the technical knowledge to modify or adapt routine procedures under the direction of a supervisor to meet special research requirements.
- Collects and compiles data, computes quantities, extends estimates, and makes and records observations/measurements.
- Sets up and operates equipment as directed by the supervisor.
- Assists in maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment.
- Inventories supplies and equipment.
- Attends related research conferences and meetings.
- Takes a proactive approach to assist co-workers in various tasks, to ensure safety.
- Performs work tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with work instructions.
- Proactively makes recommendations to improve safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment by date of hire.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
- Experience and comfort in handling laboratory animals (mice).
- Experience in immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging and image processing.
- Experience with cell cultures, surgical techniques, and animal behavior.
- Some knowledge of the basic equipment used in the field of research to which assigned.
- Knowledge of special equipment used in the field of assignment.
- Laboratory, office, or outdoor fieldwork.
- Requires working with hazardous equipment or materials occasionally.
- The ability to work safely with chemical disinfectants, handle some unpleasant elements, and tolerate normal odors/airborne is required.
