Patient Care Technician - Palliative

The Patient Care Technician on the G12E Palliative unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma and preferably a CNA certification. The shift will be a combination of 2 twelve and 2 eight-hour shifts Monday - Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. Both shift options available.

Day/Evening: 7AM - 7PM, 7AM - 3PM, 3PM - 11PM
Evening/Night: 7PM - 7AM, 11PM - 7AM, 3PM - 11PM

The G12E Palliative unit is an 18-bed unit within the medical oncology cohort. Expert palliative care is provided to patients with recurrent and/or advanced cancer with complex physical, psychological, or spiritual concerns. Although the patients seen in the unit are in varying stages of their illness, all seek restoration to maximum symptom control, function, and comfort.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $18.27 - Midpoint $22.84 - Maximum $27.40

Essential Job Functions:
• Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.
• Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.
• Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs.
• Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs.
• Updates and retrieves patient information.
• Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
• Acts as part of an assigned care team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Education Preferred: None.
Experience Required: None
Experience Preferred: Experience in an acute care setting as a Nursing Assistant.
Licensure/Certification Required: None.
Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Other Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
