The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is at the forefront of building and maintaining the state's transportation infrastructure. We are currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Permit Coordinator II. This position will mostly be reviewing driveway permits and inspecting driveway permits in the field. Also reviewing oversize loads.
Salary/Grade:
Permit Coordinator II: B14: $2,845/mo. - $4,344/mo.

Position DescriptionReviews and processes utility permit requests from public utility companies, common carriers and others placing facilities on public highway right-of-ways in a district permit office. Work require extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Performs on-site inspection of the installation/construction of driveways and utilities permitted to ensure compliance the approved permit and to verify proper traffic control measures are being followed
- Reviews and processes utility permit requests, applications, agreements and plans submitted to ensure compliance with e Utility Accommodation Policy (UA?) and other departmental requirements with emphasis on uniform application
- Assists Motor Carrier Division (MCD) Permit Operations with local routing issues and up-to-date roadway changes for the transport of oversize/overweight loads on Texas highways
- Consults with area engineer and/or maintenance supervisor on complex utility/driveway permit issues
- Coordinates movement of extra large loads with MCD, maintenance and other districts
- Meets with the public to resolve the problems of encroachments on state right-of-way
- Reviews and processes driveway permits
- Updates the highway condition report and advises the traveling public of conditions
- Works closely with city and county agencies and coordinates the departmental review of site plans for developments putting the state right-of-way
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School Grad or equivalent in general high school duties.
- Experience: 4 years of experience in administrative support, clerical, permit, utility, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- Basic computer skills will work for this job opening
Competencies:
- Reviewing and inspecting utility and driveway permits, standard computer programs, prioritizing work assignments, maintaining a safe working relationship.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Light work lift up to 20 lbs and standing-prolonged periods of time

- Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
- Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation - 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) - does not authorize medical marijuana under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.
