General Education Paraprofessional (Title I)

Primary Purpose:
Provides instructional support to students and assists in the preparation and management of classroom activities under the general supervision of a highly qualified teacher and/or principal. The Paraprofessional (Title 1) works in coordination with the campus to increase and improve parent and family involvement on the campus.
Education / Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours of college coursework); or have obtained, at minimum, an associate's degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment knowledge or, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and math or knowledge or, and the ability to assist in instructing reading and writing readiness, and math readiness, as appropriate.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal to be used with campus/district personnel, parents, students, and the community.
- Ability to effectively provide intervention to students in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to accurately collect, organize, and maintain data and information for reports.
- Experience using technology and computer programs to include Microsoft Office and Google Products.
- Ability to take initiative in coordinating and organizing activities and events.
- Ability to relate/interact/provide training with various cultures and social groups.
Experience / Other Requirements:
- Some experience working with children.
- Experience as a parent volunteer is preferred.
- Ability to speak, read and write Spanish is preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Utilize campus/district instructional resources to tutor students individually or in small groups in order to help them meet state academic achievement standards.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Work with the teacher to prepare instructional materials and classroom work stations.
- Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
- Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of resources in the Family Resource Center.
- Develop a partnership with parents to increase their participation in their child's education.
- Provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children's achievement.
- Collaborates with campus administration to organize and facilitate parent and family meetings and educational workshops or events.
- Organizes volunteer programs and recruits and provides continuous volunteer training.
- Supports and advertises all Parent and Family Engagement opportunities through a variety of media.
- Initiates and responds to parent phone calls, emails, and written correspondence related to parent and family engagement of the Family Resource Center.
