College & University Business Development Representative - Texas
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Location: Texas (Preferred: Austin, TX or North Texas) | Home Office-Based with Access to Austin, Houston, and Grand Prairie Offices
Pay: $90,000-$100,000 base salary uncapped commission
Overview
We are partnering with a growing organization in the multifamily services industry to identify a College & University Business Development Representative to support and expand business throughout Texas. This role is responsible for developing new partnerships with colleges and universities while managing and growing existing client relationships across the territory.
This position is ideal for a relationship-focused sales professional who enjoys building long-term partnerships, managing complex sales cycles, and working independently in the field. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to higher education institutions while balancing new business development and account management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business opportunities with colleges and universities throughout Texas
- Manage and grow existing client relationships within an assigned territory
- Build relationships with procurement departments, Directors of Housing, Facilities Managers, and other key decision-makers
- Develop and execute territory plans to achieve revenue and growth goals
- Manage opportunities through the RFP process, including proposal preparation and contract review
- Identify key contract terms and escalate concerns appropriately for legal review
- Conduct campus visits, customer meetings, presentations, and business reviews
- Maintain consistent communication with prospective and existing clients through email, phone, and in-person meetings
- Accurately track activity, pipeline progression, forecasts, and account updates within CRM systems
- Partner with internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction and successful implementation of services
- Adapt to changing customer needs and provide creative solutions to support long-term partnerships
- Attend industry conferences, campus events, and trade shows as needed
Qualifications & Requirements
- 3 years of outside sales, account management, business development, or relationship management experience
- Experience working with clients in the College/University high prefered
- Proven ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Experience managing a territory independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to balance new business development with ongoing account management responsibilities
- Comfortable reviewing RFPs, contracts, and proposal documentation
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Experience tracking performance metrics, KPIs, and sales activity
- Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment
- Stable work history with demonstrated commitment to prior employers
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with colleges, universities, educational institutions, or campus-related services
- Background in higher education sales, facilities services, housing programs, or route-based service industries
- Experience navigating complex, relationship-driven sales cycles
- Experience managing contract renewals and responding to RFPs
- Prior success selling to procurement, housing, facilities, or administrative stakeholders
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary of $90,000-$100,000

Travel Requirements
- Approximately 75% travel initially while building the Texas territory
- Travel expected to decrease to approximately 40% as territory relationships become established
