Weld Shop Supervisor

Summary/Objective: The Welding Supervisor is responsible for managing and training welding employees to ensure safety, quality and productivity standards are met. Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work with Director of Steel Fabrication and Lead Shop Production Coordinator to review daily tasks assigned to welding crew, monitor their productivity and ensure production objectives are met.
• Coordinate with Steel Shop Coordinator to ensure the production schedule is adhered to so that orders are ready by their required dates.
• Assist in developing and evaluating time required by shop staff to complete the fitting and welding processes in order to accurately estimate costs for future projects as well as establish lead times on current projects.
• Work as QA/QC by inspecting fit-up to ensure correct dimensions, sizes and materials are used, followed by inspection of completed welds for quality assurance, ensuring completed product adheres to job requirements and specifications noted on the blueprints.
• Supervise employees that work in the fab shop, including the creation of and implementation of a system of accountability for all direct reports, and hiring/firing decisions with approval of executive management.
• Work with safety department to ensure all safety procedures are being followed in the shop, reporting incidents to Director of Steel Fabrication and training/mentoring personnel on best practices.
• Ensure welding and fabrication equipment is maintained.
• Report performance and issues that arise in relation to fab shop maintenance and daily operations to Director of Steel Fabrication.
• Train and educate welders, fitters, and helpers in order to increase their knowledge of the AWWA Water Pipe Industry.
• Assist in welding as needed to help production team meet required completion dates.
• Assist the executive management team in enhancing the culture, reputation and profitability of the company by being on time, having a great attitude, and setting the example of hard work and dependability for the team you manage.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Manage welder continuity logs, WPS & WPQs required by job specifications.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience with welding, specifically MIG, TIG & Flux-cored welding.
• Experience interpreting blueprints.
• Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production operations and machinery.
• Excellent leadership skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to complete reports and logs.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior exceptional work experience with the company preferred.

• Must be able to traverse the production facility.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
