JOB SUMMARY
To lead and assist skilled and semi-skilled Equipment Mechanics and Service Workers; and conduct minor and major mechanical repairs to automotive, diesel and other power-driven equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the advanced journey level in the Equipment Mechanic series. Positions assigned to this class perform a full range of journey level automotive and equipment maintenance typical assigned to Equipment Mechanic II. However, positions assigned this class are distinguished from lower-level Equipment Mechanic classes in that a Senior Equipment Mechanic assumes responsibility for providing lead supervision and training for entry and journey level Equipment Mechanics and Equipment Service Workers while regularly performing the most complex maintenance and repair work in the shop.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive general supervision from the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
Exercises functional and technical supervision over lower-level equipment maintenance staff.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist other mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on City automobiles, trucks, and a variety of internal combustion engines, powered maintenance and construction equipment.
Lead, train and assist journey level semi-skilled mechanics; assign work to mechanics; assist the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor in the day-to-day supervision activities.
Maintain work, time, and material records. Order necessary parts and supplies.
Assist other mechanics in performance of mechanical repairs as required. Requisition, issue, and pick up and deliver automotive and equipment parts and supplies.
Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts. Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.

Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Maintains a clean, safe work area and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Perform mechanical work on fixed and rotating equipment at various locations.
Perform PMs on internal combustion engines, including diesel and natural gas- powered systems, as well as electrical drivers.
Compressors, pumps, generators, turbines, valves, electrical equipment, and well equipment
Service, troubleshoot, maintain, install and repair structural, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
Maintain, prepare and/or interpret reports and/or records including, but not limited to:
  • Work logs and service orders
  • Inspection reports
  • Engine/equipment maintenance and repair records
  • Pressure readings
  • Material and supply orders
  • Engine and compressor oil analysis reports
Drive and ensure maintenance is complete on company vehicles.

Wash and otherwise keep shop and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in use and function of hand and power tools and equipment applicable to position
  • Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing equipment
  • Experience relative to company and/or governmental operating/safety policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of ordering and/or securing parts and supplies.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting work and repair orders, drawings, charts, diagrams, dials, gauges, warranties, quotations, procedures and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to: apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to: communicate and/or exchange information and instructions.
  • Ability to: react immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Ability to: work in confined areas.
  • Ability to: perform precise tuning/timing work.
  • Ability to: utilize fine motor skills for making minute adjustments.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Maintain physical condition that will allow the capability to perform the following:
  • Running, walking, crawling, or standing for up to ten hours per day.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Moving loads of approximately 25 to 50 pounds.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of CDL or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas CDL driver’s license.
