Head of Analysis, Americas (Commodities)
Vortexa is a fast-growing international technology business founded to solve the immense information gap that exists in the energy industry. By using massive amounts of new satellite data and pioneering work in artificial intelligence, Vortexa creates an unprecedented view on the global seaborne energy flows in real-time, bringing transparency and efficiency to the energy markets and society as a whole.
We are seeking a Head of Market Analysis to lead our regional analysis team in the Americas. This is a high-impact leadership role at the intersection of market analytics, client engagement, and thought leadership, shaping how Vortexa drives understanding and decision-making across the industry.
As a senior market analyst and people leader, you will combine your deep market knowledge with our data and AI-driven platform to identify emerging trends, generate actionable research, and communicate these insights to clients, the media, and the wider industry. You will act as both a subject-matter expert and a visible ambassador of Vortexa’s analytical excellence.
You will sit on the global analysis leadership team and work closely with the Chief Economist to set and deliver global and regional analytical strategies. Leading and developing the US-based team, and collaborating with analyst teams in other regions, you will ensure the team is self-sufficient in market and data analysis across all aspects of waterborne energy and freight. You and your team will publish and present our analysis, support sales in client meetings, respond to client queries, and help maintain the highest data quality.
- Lead analytical coverage of the Americas, bringing deep expertise in at least one relevant commodity - ideally LPG/NGLs, naphtha, and light ends.
- Translate trade, supply-demand, and pricing dynamics into clear, forward-looking insights and scenarios.
- Produce regular research reports, data-driven commentary, and market outlooks that become reference points for customers and internal stakeholders.
- Partner closely with Commercial teams to support sales meetings, client pitches, and retention efforts with high-quality market analysis and tailored insights.
- Act as a Vortexa spokesperson and thought leader, presenting at conferences, webinars, client events and contributing to major news outlets and industry publications.
- Collaborate with Data and Product teams to maintain and enhance data quality, ensure analytical consistency, and inform continuous improvements to our platform and products.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with market participants to capture evolving trends, test hypotheses, and refine our view of the global energy landscape.
- Manage, coach, and develop market analysts in Houston and New York, including hiring, onboarding, and ongoing performance and career development.
- Work closely with global analyst colleagues in London, Dubai, and Singapore to integrate regional perspectives into a cohesive global market view.
Requirements
You Have:
- Proven expertise in at least one global energy market, ideally LPG/NGLs and related light ends markets.
- Strong understanding of refining and petrochemical value chains, supply/demand fundamentals, pricing structures, and freight economics.
- Demonstrated ability to independently produce high-quality market research reports, presentations, and client-ready deliverables on deadline.
- A confident, persuasive communication style, with the ability to represent Vortexa’s insights in client meetings, media interviews, and industry events.
- Experience partnering with commercial teams to translate analysis into sales value, commercial opportunities, and measurable client impact.
- Advanced quantitative and analytical skills; high proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar analytical tools.
- A results-driven mindset, combining intellectual curiosity with the discipline to prioritize, execute, and deliver under pressure.
- Experience managing or mentoring analysts, or leading multi-stakeholder analytical projects (or a clear readiness to take on formal team leadership)\
Nice to have
- Prior public speaking experience (panel discussions, media commentary, or conference presentations).
- Exposure to data validation, quality assurance, or product development processes.
- Direct experience mentoring junior analysts or leading cross-functional analytical initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of specific product niches or regional markets beyond the Americas.
Benefits
- Stock-options in a fast-growing, high-potential business
- A vibrant and diverse workplace
- An open, collaborative, and supportive working culture built on merit, which celebrates creative thinking and “getting things done.”
- The opportunity to work with AI-driven technology in a scale-up environment with commodity trading experts
- 401k with up to 2% contributions matched by Vortexa
- Private Health Insurance offered via Blue Cross Shield
- Dental and Vision cover offered via Guardian
- Global Volunteering Policy to help you ‘do good’ and feel better
