Technical Writer - Level 2
Description: What You Will Be Doing: The Level2 JTD Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining highquality technical documentation that supports joint programs and initiatives across multiple stakeholders (e.g., internal engineering teams, government partners, and prime contractors). This role builds on foundational writing skills and adds a focus on crossfunctional coordination, compliance with defense documentation standards, and the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, userfriendly content. Author and update system specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), user manuals, maintenance procedures, and test reports for joint programs. Work closely with engineers, program managers, quality assurance, and external partners to gather technical data, resolve ambiguities, and ensure documentation reflects the latest design baselines. Apply applicable standards (e.g., DoD SDLC, MILSTD498, DODAF, JAD, and corporate style guides) and ensure all deliverables meet security classification and exportcontrol requirements. Coordinate peerreview cycles, incorporate feedback from subjectmatter experts, and verify technical accuracy through benchlevel or simulation data where applicable. Whats In It For You:

Basic Qualifications:
-24 years of professional technical writing experience in aerospace, defense, or a similarly regulated industry; direct exposure to joint or multiagency programs preferred.
-Familiarity with systems engineering concepts, system architecture, and/or basic hardware/software terminology; ability to read schematics, block diagrams, and/or software code excerpts.
-Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret (or higher) clearance as required by the program.
Desired Skills:
-Experience with Class1/2/3 documentation for joint military programs.
-Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related technical field.
-Knowledge of ModelBased Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g., SysML, Cameo).
-Prior experience preparing documentation for certification/qualification testing (e.g., MILTEST).
-Familiarity with data labeling, classification markings, and handling of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
-Working knowledge of MILSTD498, DoD SDLC documentation standards, and any relevant agency (NASA, FAA) guidelines.
-MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar authoring tools; basic knowledge of PLM/CM tools (e.g., DOORS, Jazz, Confluence).
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
