The Role
We’re looking for a Veterinary Technician with availability 1pm-2am on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday to join our dedicated team at Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists. In this hands-on role, you’ll collaborate closely with our veterinarians and fellow technicians to deliver high-quality care across a range of emergency and specialty services.
What You'll Do
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to patients, supporting both routine and emergency medical needs
- Monitor patient progress and report treatment updates, adverse reactions, and client communications to the appropriate team lead
- Assist with diagnostic procedures, including radiographs, blood draws, and lab testing
- Prepare patients and equipment for procedures; administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and ensure accurate dosing and treatment protocols
- Operate, clean, and maintain medical equipment such as anesthesia machines, monitoring devices, and diagnostic tools
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates, education on treatment plans, and discharge instructions
- Support smooth patient discharge by explaining aftercare, medications, and scheduling follow-up appointments
- Maintain a clean and organized treatment environment, including patient housing and equipment areas
- Participate in staff training, continuing education, and departmental development opportunities
- Take part in on-call shifts to provide emergency care coverage and support team flexibility
- Accurately document treatments, procedures, and client interactions in the hospital’s medical record system
- Adhere to all hospital safety protocols, legal requirements, and infection control procedures
- Attend hospital and departmental meetings to stay aligned with team goals and protocols
What We’re Looking For
- 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician in an emergency, specialty, or fast-paced general practice environment
- High EQ and collaborative nature
- Proficiency in Medical terminology
- Low stress animal handling techniques
- Evaluation of patients upon arrival to determine triage status
- Patient care fundamentals, including monitoring, treatment administration, and procedural assistance for both inpatients and outpatients
- Knowledge of commonly utilized medications and drug dosage calculation
- Oral, subcutaneous, IM, and IV medication administration
- Collection of blood and bodily fluids for diagnostic in-house and reference lab testing
- CRI calculation and administration
- Radiation safety techniques and radiographic image acquisition
- Principles of transfusion medicine
- Principles of CPR; experience participating in codes preferred
- Stabilization and maintenance of critical patients
- Vascular access techniques including IV catheterization, central line placement, arterial catheterization, and intraosseous catheterization
- Knowledge of common emergency medicine protocols
- Placement and/or maintenance of NG tubes, thoracostomy tubes, nasal oxygen cannulas, and urinary catheters
- Oxygen administration and therapy
- Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery with and without mechanical ventilation
