Work location: Based out of Texas Health Dallas
Work hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday, with some evenings and weekends as needed based on patient needs. Generally, 8:30am – 5:00pm
This is a grant funded position and subject to the award and continuation of the contract
Here’s What You Need
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

2 Years To Include
- Experience providing maternity support, birth assistance, postpartum services, and related community health support, including breastfeeding support, newborn care education, and nonclinical screening for postpartum mood disorders.
- In-home postpartum support experience required and
2 Years Experience working with diverse and underserved populations is strongly preferred.
· 4 Years Experience in a healthcare or community health environment providing patient education, facilitating health discussions, or presenting health-related information to individuals or groups, required.
· DL - Driver’s License - Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record, and be able to successfully pass a motor vehicle driving report, required upon hire.
· CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training 90 Days required.

- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support 90 Days required.
· Other Certification through a recognized program (e.g., DONA International, CAPPA, ICEA, or equivalent) required upon hire.
· Other Certified Postpartum Doula Certification (CPD) required upon hire.
Here’s What You Will Do
Client Support & Advocacy
· Provide continuous emotional and physical support to birthing individuals during prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum periods.
· Offer evidence-based information about childbirth, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and maternal wellness to support informed decision-making.
· Help clients articulate preferences, anticipate needs, and communicate effectively with clinical care teams.
· Respect cultural, personal, and family beliefs while offering non-judgmental support.
· Ability to advocate effectively for clients by expressing their needs, preferences, and concerns to care teams, reinforcing client autonomy and informed decision-making.
Postpartum Support
· Provide guidance and reassurance during the immediate postpartum period including recovery, infant care, feeding, and emotional adjustment.
· Conduct home or mobile unit follow-ups to assess well-being and needs.
· Connect clients with community resources, support groups, lactation support, and mental health services as appropriate.
· Support family bonding and maternal self-care.
Prenatal Engagement
· Build trusting rapport with clients through home visits, phone calls, or mobile service encounters starting in early pregnancy.
· Help clients prepare birth plans and set expectations for labor, birth, and postpartum transitions.
· Provide education on coping techniques, comfort measures, relaxation, and self-advocacy.
· Identify barriers to care, social needs, or concerns and communicate necessary referrals to the Maternal Health Mobile Supervisor or Community Health Worker.
Labor & Birth Support
· Offer continuous physical comfort measures, breathing techniques, positioning suggestions, and emotional reassurance during labor and birth.
· Support clients partners or other designated support persons in participation and comfort-focused care.
· Assist in creating calm, safe spaces and facilitate positive birth experiences.
· Ensure client needs are communicated to clinical staff without interfering in clinical decision-making.
Group & Community Education
· Facilitate or support prenatal and postpartum group meetings (centering circles, workshops, classes) with a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach.
· Provide culturally appropriate information, normalize experiences, and strengthen community support networks.
· Participate in maternal health outreach events in collaboration with mobile services and CHW staff.
· Driving is an essential function of this position. The employee must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with organizational policy.
· Safely operate personal or company vehicles to travel to community-based sites, partner locations, and outreach events across multiple counties.
· Comply with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and company vehicle-use policies at all times.
· Demonstrate safe, defensive, and courteous driving practices, recognizing that behavior on the road reflects the professionalism and reputation of the organization.
· When operating a company vehicle, complete required vehicle inspections, promptly report maintenance concerns, and adhere to established fleet management protocols.
· Exercise sound judgment when determining travel safety in inclement weather or adverse conditions and communicate appropriately with leadership.
Documentation & Communication (Non-clinical)
· Complete required non-clinical documentation in EHR system in a timely manner (contacts, outreach, service encounters, referrals).
· Communicate client needs to the Maternal Health Mobile Supervisor and CHWs for appropriate support follow-up.
· Contribute to quality improvement activities by sharing insights on client experiences and service gaps.
