The Department Physics & Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenured/tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to begin September 1, 2026. The position will be in the field of gravitational wave astrophysics, including gravitational wave detection, follow-up observations, source modeling, and related topics. Preference will be given for candidates who complement existing research areas in the TTU Astrophysics group by bringing in new interests and capabilities while also having potential for collaborative interactions. We welcome all applications, and especially encourage applications from senior researchers to be hired at the Associate or Full Professor rank with tenure.

Specific Required Qualifications Are

  • PhD in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field.
  • A record indicative of the ability to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • A strong record of publication and strong potential for obtaining external research funding.
  • Demonstrated interest in and capacity for doing outreach and service tasks.

Preferred Qualification

A record indicative of conducting research that complements current areas by introducing new topics while fostering productive interactions with existing faculty.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy has about 20 faculty, with research clusters in astrophysics, condensed matter physics and particle physics, and additional activity in biophysics and physics education research. It offers BS, MS and PhD degrees.
