Hospice RN Job Details

• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel nursing contract)
• Location: Christiansburg, VA – New River Valley
• Duration: 13 weeks (October 6, 2025 – January 5, 2026)
• Schedule: Day shifts, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8-hour days)
• On-call: Weekend and evening backup on-call rotation
• Setting: Hospice and Home Health
• Mileage: Reimbursed at $0.50 per mile
• Patient Visits: Average 5 visits per day
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2120 - $2180

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Virginia or compact state
• Minimum 1 year of recent hospice or home health nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting system
• BLS certification (American Heart Association preferred)
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to work at least 1 holiday during the assignment (2 holidays for winter contracts)
• Not eligible for local candidates residing within 100 miles of Christiansburg, VA

Hospice RN Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate hospice nursing care to patients with terminal illnesses, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics
• Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and develop individualized patient care plans
• Perform skilled nursing procedures: IV starts, phlebotomy, pain assessment, and medication management
• Support patients and families with bereavement planning, death pronouncement, and emotional counseling
• Educate patients and families on disease progression, pain management, and available hospice resources
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure holistic patient care
• Accurately document all care and interventions in the EPIC system
• Participate in backup on-call rotation for evenings and weekends as needed
