A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

The Senior Software Engineer – Data Quality Platform role sits within the Data Platform organization in the Expedia Product & Technology division. The team builds the foundational capabilities that ensure Expedia Group’s data is trustworthy, timely, and fit for purpose. Our services power analytics, machine learning, and product experiences across brands and lines of business, enabling teams to make high‑confidence decisions on top of reliable data. In this role, you will design and build scalable platforms for data validation, monitoring, and observability across batch and streaming environments. Your expertise in distributed systems, data engineering, and platform thinking will help us deliver resilient, self‑service capabilities that are deeply integrated into developer workflows. By driving technical excellence and collaborating with teams across the company, you will play a key role in improving the quality of the data that powers experiences for millions of travelers and partners every day.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, build, and evolve highly reliable platform services and frameworks that enable product teams to deliver secure, scalable, and observable solutions across Expedia Group.

  • Lead end-to-end implementation of complex backend systems, including system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling, with a focus on performance, resilience, and maintainability.

  • Drive technical direction for platform capabilities, setting engineering standards, reviewing designs and code, and mentoring other engineers in modern service development best practices.

  • Own the full service lifecycle for critical platform components, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of reliability and operational excellence.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and integrate platform capabilities that are reusable across multiple domains, ensuring consistent patterns, tooling, and developer experience.

  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions and AI-driven tools that improve platform reliability, developer productivity, and automation, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Proven experience owning one or more services end-to-end, including design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.

  • Strong proficiency in system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling, with a track record of building secure, scalable, and observable services.

  • Hands-on experience with modern service development practices such as CI/CD, monitoring/alerting, and operational tooling in a cloud-based environment, including operating backend or platform services in production.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and evolving platform capabilities or shared services used by multiple product or data teams at scale.

  • Hands-on experience using agentic coding workflows with tools like Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI Codex to autonomously generate, refine, and optimize code solutions across complex development tasks.

  • Strong proficiency in Java development with hands-on experience building scalable, high‑performance applications using Spring Boot, including RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and integration with modern cloud services.

  • Background in data platforms or data infrastructure, such as working with Kafka or similar streaming technologies and query engines like Trino/Presto or equivalent tools.

  • Demonstrated leadership in defining technical roadmaps, setting engineering standards, and guiding teams through complex architectural decisions for platform systems.

  • Practical experience applying AI/ML concepts to platform engineering or data quality problems (for example, intelligent automation, anomaly detection, self-healing workflows, or developer productivity tooling).

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems and workflows within engineering platforms (e.g., AI-assisted development, AI-powered monitoring or operations) and the ability to evaluate and adopt such technologies responsibly in a large-scale environment.

  • Strong understanding of supervised, unsupervised, and semi‑supervised learning, including applied mathematics, probability, and statistical methods to detect anomalies and identify statistical deviations.

  • Hands‑on experience with core ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., scikit‑learn, XGBoost) and robust data handling skills across diverse data types using pandas, NumPy, and Plotly.

  • Familiarity with MLOps practices, including deploying and operating production ML models, model versioning, monitoring for drift, and implementing automated retraining/CI‑CD workflows.
