Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (CPChem) is seeking a Research Engineer for the Aromax® Catalyst & Process Research Development Team in Kingwood, TX (a residential suburb of Houston, TX). #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations and procedures.
 - Execute R&D experimental programs supporting Aromax® Process development, Sustainability Research programs, and advancing CPChem Core technologies.
 - Monitors daily process performance of the process units and support systems. Works with the Team to further expand the unit operating capacity and champions both improvement and Performance by Design (PBD) opportunities.
 - Compile and interpret process data for the advancement of research programs.
 - Acts as the project coordinator on various small capital and expense projects. Deliverables include scoping, preliminary analyses, process engineering, and economics as required to improve Team performance and modify equipment.
 - Update and maintain process equipment PSI and equipment process control systems, OPTO 22. Will be expected to learn and maintain process control systems.
 - Effectively communicate with cross-functional teams of researchers, lab technicians, process engineers, management, and business.
 
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical Engineering with at least 3 years of engineering and/or pilot plant experience OR a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
 - High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
 - Able to develop positive and collaborative working relationships.
 - Able to evaluate and prioritize work to ensure alignment with the group and research goals.
 - Good written and verbal communication skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the operation or evaluation of catalyst systems including hydrotreating, hydrocracking, hydrogenation, desulphurization, or other reactive system.
 - Proficient in at least one programming language or Process Control Software/DCS (e.g. Visual Basic, C++, Matlab, Python, Delta V, Honeywell, Emmerson, Allen Bradley PLC, ModBus, Labview, etc.)
 - Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot reactor systems, process instrumentation, and/or process control systems.
 - Small project experience.
