Real Estate Accountant

Description
SUMMARY:
The Real Estate Accountant will prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Responsibilities include analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. In addition, reports the organization's finances to management and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies and underlying budget forecasts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Prepare the weekly cash reports for all bank accounts.
- Prepare deposit slips and make electronic copies of all income checks for deposits.
- Enter deposits into real estate accounting system (Yardi Voyager).
- Reconcile deposits to aging report and rent roll to ensure all payments have been entered correctly.
- Communicate with real estate managers regarding tenant deposits and outstanding amounts.
- Process wire transfers as they are needed.
- Assist with processing accounts payable invoices by coding and entering in the real estate accounting system (Yardi Voyager).
- Correspond with real estate managers and vendors on invoice inquiries.
- Help with the mailing of all A/P checks.
- Process bill pays for all utilities and/or accounts set up for the bill pay service.
- Help with the billing for the real estate companies (monthly tenant billing).
- Reconcile all bank accounts to general ledger and the cash reports.
- Obtain W-9s from vendors and prepare 1099s for vendors & for the IRS.
- Calculate and journalize any the interest income/expense for all Notes Receivables/Payables.
- Prepare journal entries for any items charged to intercompany accounts.
- Prepare intercompany reconciliations to ensure all intercompany accounts are in balance.
- Prepare check requests to request reimbursement of any intercompany balances.
- Prepare recurring month end journal entries for depreciation, bank interest, sweep transfers, etc.
- Ensure all ad valorem taxes and insurance accruals are accurately calculated and updated as needed.
- Print the general ledger for the month to check all transactions were processed correctly.
- Run and analyze monthly financial statements.
- Prepare monthly Management Package reports and submit to management.
- Prepare monthly Consolidated Report
- Maintain construction projects schedules and ensure all construction projects are recorded correctly.
- Work on any additional schedules/projects as assigned by management.
- Maintain a good electronic filing system of all records and information.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field - preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least 4 to 5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably focused in real estate
SKILLS:
Must have the following skills and/or abilities:
- Solid understanding of GAAP and Consolidated Financial Statement reporting
- Experience with electronic accounting software
- Able to work in a fast-paced business climate with the ability to capture and process information quickly.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Solid problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in use of computers for business applications.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have a current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the following physical activity on a frequent to constant basis:
- Sit for long periods of time.
- Lift 10–20 lbs. of files, plans, office supplies, or similar items.
- Constantly uses fingers and hands when dialing/answering the telephone and operating a computer or other office machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer.
- Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information through verbal communications in person or detect objects in and around job site over the telephone.
- Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents; operate a computer or other office machinery; or.
- Walk short distances on slippery, even, and/or uneven surfaces.
- Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, or crawl.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Majority of work is performed in an office atmosphere located inside a building with no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- May require infrequent job site visits involve performing work in outdoor weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold, heat, and noise depending upon project site.
- May travel locally during the workday.
