Deputy; Sheriff's Office
GENERAL SUMMARY
Protects life and property of citizens in Johnson County and of the State of Texas. Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes against persons or property and apprehends wanted persons. Maintains peace and order within Johnson County and enforces criminal and traffic laws of the State of Texas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Enforces all state laws, county ordinances or other applicable statutes while safeguarding the constitutional rights of all persons involved.
Answers calls for service, investigates criminal offenses and completes reports, makes arrests and completes arrest paperwork.
Transports inmates and juveniles to and from court and from other jails to Johnson County jails.
Serves as (E.R.T) Emergency Response Team member.
Serves as SRO (School Resource Officer) officer; provides law enforcement services within a public school setting; and, acts as a liaison between, the school, law enforcement and other entities.
Performs accident investigations.
Executes warrants and summons.
Testifies in court hearings.
Serves as FTO (Field Training Officer); trains and teaches new employees.
Projects a positive image of the the Sheriff's Office and the law enforcement profession as a whole by appearance, demeanor and performance of duties.
Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Employees are required to comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, and wear personal protective gear if required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent, with no experience required. Combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions listed above can be substituted.
Certifications and/or Licenses
TCOLE Peace Officer License (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- State, Federal, and Local laws
- Code of Criminal Procedure
- Penal Code, Traffic Code, Juvenile Code, Mental Health Code and Transportation Code
- Civil and Criminal Court System
Special weapons and tactics
Mobile data computer and accompanying software systems and car mobile video system.
FTO Program
Meet schedules and deadlines of the work unit

Maintain well-organized materials, files, systems and tools
Adapt to changes in work situations and priorities
Reason/analyze; use logic to identify and resolve problems
Establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit and other departments, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities
