What's your day like?

As a Full-Time Mechanic I at the City of Pharr, you will play a crucial role in keeping the city's vehicle fleet running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include performing routine maintenance on City vehicles and executing tire repairs, including installation and replacement. You will diagnose and repair various systems, such as brakes, cooling, steering, and suspension, while also conducting minor tune-ups. Additionally, you will assist fellow mechanics when needed and undertake repairs and overhauls of trucks and other engineering equipment. Your skills may also be put to use in welding tasks, ensuring all repairs meet safety standards.

By testing equipment for defects and executing checks on repairs before returning them to service, you will ensure the reliability and efficiency of the City’s operational capabilities. This position also allows for the opportunity to work on small engines and equipment, further expanding your technical expertise.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment needed for major and minor repairs of diesel motors and diesel-powered construction equipment.

  • Knowledge of the principles of operation of diesel fueled and gasoline internal combustion engines.
  • Skills in the process of general traffic control maintenance.
  • Specialized technical training in automotive repair.
