Academic Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

Crossover
The Woodlands, TX
  • On-site in Houston, TX — choose between Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus locations (relocation assistance available)
  • $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
  • The kindest thing you can do for a child who reaches 99% of their target is to insist they finish. If that philosophy feels harsh to you, this position won't be a fit. If it excites you—because you understand that maintaining high standards proves to a student that you believe in their ability to meet them—read on.

Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete an entire day's worth of academic work in roughly two hours using adaptive technology. There are no lectures. No textbooks. Your role covers what software cannot: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in developing life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. You'll spend half your time leading interactive workshops built around structured playbooks and narrative techniques. The remainder of your day is spent meeting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress through Coachbot analytics tied to adaptive learning platforms, and driving them toward 100% completion of weekly objectives. Mastery is demonstrated via Test2Pass assessments, not by attendance or effort scores.

During your first year, you'll manage a student cohort and become fluent in Alpha's operational model: life skill workshops, motivational coaching, mastery-validated assessments. Once you demonstrate the ability to hold every student accountable to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—a role where you mentor fellow Guides while remaining active with students. Top performers in this role don't simply impact individual outcomes; they influence campus-wide culture.

If you've been coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people for years and wish you could eliminate traditional teaching duties to concentrate purely on their development, this is that opportunity.

    What You Will Be Doing

    • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for Pre-K through 8th grade students covering public speaking, focus, teamwork, and constructive feedback exchange (activity-driven and project-oriented)
    • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions in which you assess each student's adaptive learning app performance (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and drive them toward 100% weekly completion
    • Overseeing and scoring Test2Pass assessments to verify genuine life skill mastery rather than mere participation
    • Adjusting your coaching approach across developmental stages, from Pre-K learners requiring high energy and physical engagement to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
    • Cultivating authentic relationships with every student so they trust your guidance even through moments of resistance, distraction, or self-doubt

    What You Won’t Be Doing

    • Teaching traditional academic subjects through lectures (core curriculum is delivered via adaptive apps, not by you)
    • Creating lesson plans or curriculum materials independently (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; you animate them through energy and storytelling)
    • Handling parent communication or administrative tasks (Campus Leads manage those areas; your focus remains on students)
    • Evaluating homework or preparing students for standardized tests (these elements don't exist in Alpha's model)
    • Operating in isolation (you're embedded in a campus team alongside Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who provide mutual feedback and accountability)

    Academic Coach Key Responsibilities

Ensure every student in your cohort loves school, masters essential life skills, and hits 100% of their academic goals through adaptive learning software.

    Basic Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in any field
    • 3+ years of experience working directly with Pre-K–8 students (teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program leadership)
    • Experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular goals, with at least one specific example you can describe (the goal, actions you took, and the outcome)
    • Daily use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
    • Willing to work in-person at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus (relocation support provided)
    • Legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

    Nice-to-have Requirements

    • Background in youth sports coaching, camp coordination, or after-school programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward concrete objectives
    • History of notable personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive sports, or leadership positions demanding continuous excellence)
    • Innate storytelling talent: you can captivate a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without elevating your voice
    • Success in engaging disengaged or reluctant students and transforming them into active contributors
