The Cashier position in the department of Dining Services at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center performs monetary transactions, which includes computing the cost of meals and deposits money into cash register and makes change, totaling money received according to register count and verifying totals with cash on hand. Counts and packages money and prepares reports of daily transactions and forwards cash, receipts and other records to accounting section.May also prepare beverage orders.

Schedule :
Requires open availability to different shifts, including weekends and holiday coverage.

What You'll Do :
• Cash Handling: Verifies assigned bank is correct and sets up register. Performs cash handling transactions in accordance with Institutional and Departmental guidelines. Checks out each customer by checking employee ID's, examining items on trays and properly charging for them. Provides each customer with an error free register tally of the total meal transaction. Provides each customer a receipt and correct change. Prepares and verifies daily sales totals with supervisor at the closing of shift. Deposits money at closing of the shift.
• Customer service: Exhibits good guest relation skills with patients, visitors, employees and managers. May prepare and serve beverages and food items. Maintains a high level of professionalism through cooperation and receptiveness to others. Offers assistance to patients, visitors, and staff of all ages, races, cultural backgrounds, beliefs and disease processes. May train new employees as assigned by management.
• Inventory Management/Sanitation and Safety: Maintains area by replenishing condiments, food items, trays, plastic-ware and napkins as needed. Maintains a safe and sanitary work area by disposing of clutter around the register area; cleaning counter tops frequently and keeping work area free of personal belongings
• May be moved to new locations and/or shifts as operations dictate. Cross training may also involve shift changes.

What We're Looking For :
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least six months' experience as a cashier in a large volume operation or successful completion of the MD Anderson Dining Services Apprentice Program.
• A positive attitude, strong time management skills, and commitment to teamwork.
• Texas Food Handlers Certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
