CVICU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: San Antonio, TX 78229 (South Texas Medical Center)
• Healthcare Setting: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
• Assignment Length: 13-week contract
• Nursing Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), rotating weekends
• Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1680–$1730
• Employment Type: Locum tenens, travel nurse
• Start Date: August 15, 2025
• End Date: November 14, 2025

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license (no temporary licenses accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or CVICU nursing experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association preferred)
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring (swans, arterial lines)
• Ventilator management experience
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to float to other critical care units as needed
• Preferred: IABP and CRRT experience, Meditech charting proficiency

CVICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing care to cardiovascular ICU patients, including post-CABG, post-VAD, and post-cath with cardiac support devices (IABP, Impella, ECMO)
• Monitor and manage complex cardiac conditions using advanced equipment and evidence-based protocols
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes
• Document patient care accurately using Meditech electronic health records
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, including floating, attendance, and professional standards
• Adhere to dress code (navy scrubs), grooming, and body art/piercing guidelines
• Clock in/out for shifts and observe required break times
