Description

Holt CAT in Anna, Texas is looking for a experienced Heavy Equipment-Shop Service Technician. This position is responsible for providing high-quality repair service on heavy equipment in a shop environment, in order to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner and to ensure maximum value for work performed. Must have 3 years experience on heavy construction equipment. Must be able to rebuild transmissions, final drives, and undercarriage components. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 4 PM. Our address is 451 E. Outer Loop Road, Anna, Texas 75409.

Mid-level position – Generally has more than seven years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A Level IV Technician has a broad knowledge of the field's standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is self-starting and requires minimal supervision; is often a team member on a large project.

Essential Functions


  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer's specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
  • Provides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented mentoring, and training to others
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Troubleshoot and perform complex repairs correctly in the shop such as pumps, hydraulic, engine, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical issues and repairs.
  • At least 3 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment using electronic and manual equipment to determine failure.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Tier 4 Final Emissions Systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems - CAT ET / CAT SIS 2.0
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)

Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • Seven or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel

  • Some travel is expected for this position

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment

  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Noise level may be loud at times
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
