JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager on Duty is a Seasonal position in the Operations department, serving as the Manager on Duty (MOD) for Holiday at the Arboretum, which is held during the evenings.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Five days a week (including weekends and nights), from 4:30 pm to 9:30 or 10:30 pm, depending upon the day of the week. The exceptions are the nights that the Arboretum Garden is closed – Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

  • The ideal candidate must commit for the Holiday Season (November 1 through December 31) for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Check in with the daytime Manager on Duty for an update of the night’s list of activities. And support staff.
  • Check out a radio and designated earpiece for communication with other departments.
  • Walk the holiday exhibits - 12 Days of Christmas, Christmas Village, and the Dazzling Tree – to check for functionality of the exhibits, the lights in and around the exhibits, while also checking for trash.
  • Meet and check-in with the evening janitorial team daily and confirm their area assignments.
  • Work with the Public Events, Gift Store, Guest Experience, and Security teams throughout the event to ensure that the guest experience is optimal.
  • Support the Security department with minor injuries, incidents, and emergencies.
  • Check in on the Guest Experience team by continuously walking the exhibits throughout the night.
  • Assist with the closing of the exhibits at the end of each night. This includes turning off the 12 Days of Christmas gazebos and unplugging the Christmas Village exhibit, including the Christmas Pyramid.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School education or equivalent
  • 2-5 years transferable operations experience, or related experience; 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficient in workplace safety measures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs and to physically and repeatedly walk the property for janitorial/equipment oversight and support in all weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must pass a background check, drug screening, and physical examinations
