Job Title: Accounts Payable Manager

Location: Houston, TX

Compensation: $85,000 – $90,000 / year

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and oversee the accounts payable function for our growing organization. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day AP operations, ensuring accurate and timely invoice processing and payments, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving continuous process improvements. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical accounting background, proven leadership experience, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors. This position plays a key role in month-end close, audit support, and the overall scalability of the finance organization.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Oversight

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounts payable team, ensuring performance goals, accuracy standards, and deadlines are consistently met
  • Assign workloads, provide training, and establish best practices to support team efficiency and growth

Invoice & Payment Management

  • Oversee high-volume invoice processing, coding, and approvals to ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Review and approve payment runs (checks, ACH, wire transfers), ensuring accuracy, proper authorization, and timely execution

Reconciliations & Controls

  • Oversee vendor statement reconciliations, AP subledger reconciliations, and bank activity related to disbursements
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure segregation of duties within the AP function

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as escalation point for vendor inquiries, payment disputes, and complex issues
  • Maintain accurate vendor records, including W-9s, tax documentation, and payment terms

Expense & Intercompany Processing

  • Oversee employee expense report review and compliance with company policies
  • Manage intercompany invoices, accruals, and recharge activity

Month-End & Audit Support

  • Lead AP-related month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, prepaids, and intercompany reporting
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and audit schedules

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the AP function
  • Partner with accounting and finance leadership on system enhancements, ERP optimization, and automation initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounts payable or accounting experience, including people management
  • Experience managing AP in a high-volume or complex environment
  • Strong knowledge of AP processes, accruals, expense management, and internal controls
  • ERP system experience required (Dynamics preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
