Position overview:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies required for electrical projects. This role involves identifying suppliers, negotiating prices, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery of goods to meet project schedules. The Purchasing Agent plays a crucial role in managing costs, maintaining quality standards, and supporting the efficient operation of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sourcing and Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and select vendors for electrical materials and equipment. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to ensure the best value for the company.
- Vendor Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while continuously seeking new suppliers to expand the vendor network. Monitor vendor performance and address any issues or concerns.
- Material Planning: Work closely with project managers and engineers to understand project requirements and timelines. Develop and execute procurement plans to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to project sites.
- Cost Management: Analyze pricing trends and market conditions to optimize purchasing decisions. Implement cost-saving strategies while maintaining quality standards.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels to prevent shortages and excess stock. Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure efficient storage and distribution of materials.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry regulations. Stay informed about relevant laws and regulations related to purchasing and procurement.
- qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, with a focus on electrical materials and equipment.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical components, materials, and equipment used in construction projects.
- Proven negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in purchasing or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is a plus.
