Materials Management Supervisor - Inventory Control

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Supervisor of Materials Management to support the Materials Mgmt Services Ops department. This department is responsible for maintaining efficient inventory operations, inventory accuracy, product integrity, and inventory governance that support critical healthcare service delivery. The Supervisor of Materials Management leads inventory control programs, supervises staff, and drives operational excellence across inventory-supported environments.

The Supervisor of Materials Management collaborates with operational leaders across multiple disciplines to improve service performance and maintain effective inventory management practices.

The ideal candidate will have experience in inventory management, logistics, or a related field with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience. Preferred qualifications include an Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree. Candidates should possess strong inventory control knowledge, analytical skills, process improvement experience, AI experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

Minimum $32.93/hour - Midpoint $41.11/hour - Maximum $49.28/hour
Work Location: Onsite
Typical Work Schedule: Days (Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm)

Responsibilities

Inventory Governance & Control Oversight
• Lead inventory control operations to maintain accurate inventory records across CSC-managed inventory locations and supported departments
• Establish and enforce inventory control standards, procedures, and audit requirements to ensure consistency and compliance
• Oversee inventory adjustment processes and validate root causes to maintain data integrity and system accuracy
• Ensure inventory practices align with operational objectives and healthcare service requirements

Cycle Count Program & Inventory Accuracy
• Direct the development, execution, and sustainability of cycle count programs across warehouse, storeroom, PAR, and inventory-supported environments
• Establish count schedules, reconciliation standards, and corrective action plans to maintain target inventory accuracy levels
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce inventory inaccuracies
• Monitor count completion, variance trends, and compliance performance to drive accountability
• Use inventory data and audit findings to identify recurring issues and implement process improvements

Inventory Reconciliation, Compliance & Product Integrity
• Oversee investigation and resolution of inventory discrepancies, transactional errors, receiving variances, and inventory exceptions
• Ensure timely reconciliation of physical inventory activity with ERP and inventory management systems
• Monitor adherence to inventory policies, regulatory expectations, and internal control requirements
• Coordinate internal and external audit support activities and corrective action follow-up
• Lead inventory expiration management programs to reduce waste and support patient safety initiatives
• Establish controls to monitor shelf life, rotation practices, product disposition, and removal of expired inventory
• Collaborate with operational teams to improve product visibility and reduce avoidable inventory losses
• Develop reporting mechanisms that proactively identify inventory at risk of expiration or obsolescence

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operational Support
• Partner with Inventory Planning, Distribution, Procurement, Nursing, Pharmacy, Laboratory, and operational leaders to address inventory challenges and improve service performance
• Communicate inventory risks, trends, shortages, and corrective actions to stakeholders
• Support operational readiness planning and inventory response activities during periods of disruption or elevated demand
• Communicate process updates and support department-wide adoption of inventory initiatives
• Serve as a subject matter expert for inventory control processes and inventory system governance

Team Leadership, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
• Supervise Inventory Control staff by establishing performance expectations, coaching team members, and supporting professional development
• Oversee onboarding, training, and competency validation related to inventory accuracy, counting methodologies, and inventory systems
• Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
• Lead Lean and operational excellence initiatives that improve inventory visibility, process reliability, and control effectiveness
• Develop and monitor inventory control dashboards and KPIs including inventory accuracy, count compliance, adjustment trends, expiration reduction, and audit performance
• Use reporting and analytics tools to evaluate inventory health and prioritize improvement opportunities
• Provide regular operational reporting and recommendations to leadership
• Support strategic decision-making through accurate inventory performance analysis and actionable insights

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree or
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 5 years Inventory, logistics or a related field to include two years of team lead/supervisory experience. or
  • Required: 3 years Inventory, logistics, or related field to include two years of team lead/supervisory experience with Associate's degree. or
  • Required: 1 year Inventory, logistics, or a related field to include one year of team lead/supervisory experience with Bachelor's degree.
  • : May substitute years of required experience to include two years of team lead/supervisory experience.
  • : Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Preferred: Cycle count, inventory management, and AI experience a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
