Job Summary
The Manager, Engineering Systems/Data has subject matter expertise in engineering-related systems and software to include managing data/information to produce both engineering drawings as well as EPC reports and dashboards. This is a working leadership role and will be responsible for supporting automation and other utilities specific to engineering software, EPC software/Hexagon standup/interface and implementation with present software applications in coordination with our sister construction entities. Oversight generally related to drawing output, reports and status dashboards, through both individual and team efforts. Analyzes user needs and performs application studies and evaluations, designs systems and procedures, and conducts work simplification and measurement studies with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency. Sits on the project team for implementation of new and existing software, leading the engineering team in the effort.
Essential Functions

- Works with Engineering Leadership to establish and maintain Strategic Plan.
- Works with Matrix construction companies particularly around EPC software implementation, reporting and dashboards.
- Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates, and terminates subordinate personnel. Establishes department and individual goals/objectives and directs, and actively participates as necessary, subordinate personnel in achievement of responsibilities and objectives.
- Leads and supports team providing administrative support for our EPC/Hexagon software and AVEVA projects.
- Engages with Engineering staff to align department needs with automation projects and priorities.
- Monitors and stays current with trends and developments in engineering automation and programming and evaluates the impact to the Company. Makes recommendations for new or improved practices.
- Leads programmers (direct employees and contract/consulting support) and subject matter experts that support Engineering Software and automation.
- Leads and/or participates in software evaluation when choosing to add, update, modify, or end the use of software in the department.
- Consults with IT and Engineering personnel to understand project status, proposals, and technical issues such as software system design and maintenance. Researches products and evaluates interface between hardware and software, and develops specifications and performance requirements to resolve issues.
- Facilitates effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Facilitates system implementation efforts, including assessing implementation strategy, providing recommendations on data strategy for optimal engagement with vendor(s); internally educating stakeholders about the capabilities, benefits, objectives, and timelines; manages scope, budget and schedule and the management of change to ensure that technologies and processes are cost-effective and sustainable.
- Ensures training for all disciplines involving all suites of AVEVA/E3D is in place.
- Codes, tests, debugs, and documents in various programming systems.
- Provides CADD support, including technical support for all CADD software, and development and implementation of training for all software packages for all disciplines.
- Develops multi-discipline BOM Specifications in AVEVA/E3D, including development of all reports (BOM), rules, and filters as required by engineering teams.
- Supports all E3D modeling tasks for all disciplines.
- Identifies potential software issues and works with the developer to find and facilitate solutions in a timely manner. Supports the capture, analysis, and presentation of internal data, as required.
- Prepares reports and correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, and status. Determines project scope and flowcharts logical steps prior to coding.
- Develops SQL statements and uses basic report formatting tools such as Excel to format query output.
- Mines data and presents information through reports, the web, and other interfaces, as required.
- Ensures quality business systems and enhancements are delivered on-time.
- Supports upgrades and patches for compatibility.
- Produces user documentation for created programs and utilities, and prepares operations and procedure manuals to assist application development team as needed.
- Performs necessary investigation, analysis, and evaluation to determine project feasibility.
- Provides high level support of software and business applications to multiple offices. Provides initial response to help desk tickets and supports software and business applications for end users.
- Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent job-related experience/knowledge in lieu of degree.
- 10+ years' experience in software/application design and development in engineering environment plus 1-3+ years' previous supervisory or managerial experience.
- Experience with systems implementation highly preferred.
- Knowledge of engineering software and EPC applications required; experience with Hexagon and AVEVA is a plus.
- Project management skills, including the ability to create and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with customer service orientation.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques.
- General understanding, knowledge and command of primary software packages used in each of the Matrix PDM engineering disciplines:
- Autodesk Products: AutoCAD, Navisworks, Inventor, ReCap, Civil 3D.
- Intergraph Suite of Products: CADWorx (Piping, P&ID, Structural, E&I), Isogen, Orthogen, CAESAR II
- Previous experience as a CADD software administrator, CADD coordinator, CADD system manager, or BIM Manager is a plus.
- Ability to work with remote High Value Engineering Center (HVEC) resources and their common practices.
- Ability to foster collaboration.
- Experience with SharePoint integration and development.
- Expertise with databases, spreadsheet programs and report writers; expertise in use of the Engineering department's primary information systems.
- Experience in the use of back-office processes and languages including but not limited to VB, VBA, SQL Server, .NET, VB Script, and HTML.
- Knowledge of Internet search techniques and ability to obtain information from the Internet.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
Physical/Special Requirements
- This position may require working outside of normal business hours upon occasion and occasional business travel.
