Lab Technician
- Prepare, organize, and maintain inspection records and logbooks as required
- Follow written analytical procedures for testing of customer solution samples including plating tests, volumetric and gravimetric analysis, instrumental analysis, etc.
- Perform the setup, reagents preparation, calibration, testing, calculation, reporting, and cleanup (after training period) of parameters that are performed on-site
- Perform all duties in a safe manner, including housekeeping duties as required which may include: dishwashing, proper bottle disposal, proper sample disposal, and other housekeeping duties as required by the testing and maintain clean lab and work area
- Perform calculations associated with the test results
- Perform data entry as required by testing and review and validate test results
- Utilize critical thinking skills to make operational changes in the wastewater treatment facility to either optimize conditions or correct operational conditions
- Perform duties within timeframes prescribed and at expected level of quality, quantity, and teamwork
- Maintain proper stock of supplies, reagents, and standards
- Operate equipment and follow procedures in accordance with ISO 9000 and ISO14001 standards
- Perform analytical testing such as: turbidity, hardness, chlorine, pH, CO2, O2, SDI, TOC, in addition to various other site-specific testing requirements
- Manage and adjust chemical dosing systems to maintain the required chemistry in the wastewater treatment system
- Provide training for new employees as needed
- Crosstrain on operational duties so that additional operational redundancy is present on-site
- Other duties as needed
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques and equipment: pipettes, burettes, graduates, beakers and flasks, other basic lab equipment
- Knowledge of basic computer skills
- Skilled in the use of basic math and laboratory calculations
- Ability to properly use: a balance, a thermometer, hand tools (screwdriver, wrenches, pliers, etc.), drying ovens, tweezers and tongs, other lab equipment required by testing (as trained) and a pipette bulb
- Data interpretation, record keeping reporting and critical decision-making skills
- Working knowledge of UV/VIS Spectrophotometers, HPLC Instrumentation, and pH meters, inline analyzers, and gravimetric assays
- Ability to properly perform test methods assigned
- Ability to read and follow methods for test procedures, reports, and QC
- Ability to read and implement instrument/equipment manuals
- Ability to read, comprehend, and implement test methods
- Ability to read, write, and communicate orally in English in a fluent manner
- Proficient in Google Suite or related software
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Pass a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Operators exam within 6 months of employment
- Forklift license and experience
- Experience working in wastewater treatment
- Experience working in a fast-paced work environment
- Previous lab experience
- Laboratory software: LIMS systems, Minitab preferred
