Payroll Manager
WHC Energy Services – A Surerus Murphy Company (WHC), is seeking to recruit a Payroll Manager to join their team. This role ensures timely and accurate processing of employee compensation while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with HR and finance departments KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for as many, possibly more than 1600 employees.
- Maintains employee confidentiality and the protection of sensitive payroll related information.
- Manages as well as supports when needed, the full cycle weekly process, including processing payroll for new hires, any employee changes, leaves, terminations, and all related responsibilities.
- Leads the processing of the Bi-Weekly payroll cycle, in its entirety as well as provides HR with proper reports needed to meet 401K, HSA, garnishments and other employee benefit needs.
- Generates certified payroll reports to be distributed to the proper departments.
- Ensures that employee changes, including wage and time adjustments, are properly authorized, correctly entered and recorded promptly.
- Maintains the COINS timecard system including the entering/creating login for new hires as well as one on one training per new employee, for the timecard system.
- Investigates and resolves payroll discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner.
- Prepares and files multi-state local, state and federal tax payments on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
- Prepares quarterly federal, state unemployment and state tax withholding returns as well as annual W2 forms.
- Investigates annual W2 discrepancies and creates and files any W2 corrections needed in a timely manner.
- Manages, trains and develops payroll team, including setting performance goals and conducting performance evaluations.
- Provides excellent customer service to both employees and project support staff while managing sensitive, confidential information with tact, discretion and diplomacy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or equivalent experience required.
- 3 or more years’ experience processing full cycle multi-state payroll.
- Strong leadership skills with at least 2 years of managing others or leading teams.
- Thorough understanding of cost-based payroll accounting, payroll tax, withholding, deductions and garnishments, prevailing wage, and state/federal payroll regulations.
- Experience in construction industry preferred.
- Microsoft Excel proficiency.
- Operates proactively, efficiently and resourcefully.
- Ability to always communicate with professionalism, both written and verbal.
- Ability to operate both independently and amongst a team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Expert knowledge of multi-state payroll, payroll tax rules and regulations in the U.S.
- Possess strong orientation to detail and an initiative to seek additional training or education as required.
This position is office based and works in our The Woodlands, TX or Broussard, LA location. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
