Director, Texas A&M Energy Institute
Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Director of the Texas A&M Energy Institute, with appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Professor. Founded in 2009, the Texas A&M Energy Institute () is a joint institute between Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES). The Director serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the Institute and reports to the Texas A&M University Vice President for Research.
The Texas A&M Energy Institute pursues and supports new approaches for multi-disciplinary energy research, education, and external partnerships. These approaches cross departmental and college boundaries and address all facets of the energy landscape that naturally connect engineering, sciences, technologies, economics, law, and policy. Dedicated to discovering energy solutions and improving the quality of life, the Texas A&M Energy Institute engages undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral associates, research staff, and faculty members toward the study and development of innovative technologies and policies for energy production and energy conservation, fostering an integrated approach and research agenda across disciplines and developing quantitative tools for the analysis of energy systems. Beyond research, it aims to educate the next generation of leaders in energy through its innovative Master of Science in Energy and Certificate in Energy educational programs.
The Energy Institute engages in interdisciplinary research and scholarship with more than 320 faculty affiliates from nine colleges and schools at Texas A&M University, more than 20 Texas A&M University departments, two Texas A&M University branch campuses, and six Texas A&M University System member institutions.
The Director's responsibilities include:
- Guiding the development and implementation of a strategic vision and long-term goals for the Energy Institute, focusing on addressing complex, multi-faceted global challenges.
- Working to create a community of energy scholars across the Texas A&M University System, fostering and engaging Energy Institute faculty affiliates, and carrying forward the vision for interdisciplinary engagement across the university.
- Closely following new trends and emerging fields in energy innovation, and through engagement with Texas A&M leadership, identifying areas where Texas A&M can successfully position itself for funding opportunities and collaborations.
- Engaging external entities, stakeholders, and industries at the local, state, national, and international levels to promote the vision, goals, and activities of the Energy Institute.
- Developing and expanding an institute research portfolio that leverages internal and external networks for competitive extramural research funding.
- Overseeing the Interdisciplinary Curricular Program in Energy, including the Master of Science in Energy and Certificate in Energy academic programs.
- Providing leadership in energy education across Texas A&M, including professional development and continuing education curriculum offered by the institute.
- Working to ensure resources are secured and professionally managed for the smooth operation of the Energy Institute, including from external awards and business and industry collaborations.
- Serving as an internal and external focal point for identifying and connecting with energy expertise at Texas A&M.
- Overseeing the management, recruitment, evaluation, and professional development of academic and research staff within the institute, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture aligned with the university's values.
- Ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal policies and regulations.
