The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a global leader in cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Clinical Nurse - Nursing Post Anesthesia Care Unit supports patients through critical surgical transitions within a high-acuity perioperative environment. The Clinical Nurse - Nursing Post Anesthesia Care Unit rotates between Preoperative Care, Post Anesthesia Care, and Transition Post Anesthesia Care units, delivering evidence-based care while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.

The Clinical Nurse - Nursing Post Anesthesia Care Unit contributes to this mission by providing compassionate, patient-centered care and supporting quality, innovation, and excellence across the surgical continuum.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of clinical nursing experience in Preoperative Care, Post Anesthesia Care, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, or Surgical Intermediate Care Unit. Successful candidates demonstrate a commitment to patient-centered care, continuous improvement, and adaptability in dynamic clinical environments. Education, licensure, and certification preferences were not provided.

Minimum $32.69 - Midpoint $50.48 - Maximum $68.27

The typical work schedule is 5:30 PM-6:00 AM.

Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
• Deliver care aligned with transformational leadership principles, supporting unit values and future-focused practices.
• Provide nursing care across Preoperative Care, Post Anesthesia Care, and Transition Post Anesthesia Care units.
• Support safe and effective patient care throughout critical surgical transitions.

• Apply evidence-based nursing principles in daily clinical practice.
• Contribute to innovation, quality improvement initiatives, and the advancement of new knowledge.
• Support best practices through continuous evaluation of clinical outcomes and care delivery.

• Partner with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
• Support a collaborative, high-acuity care environment focused on excellence in patient care.

• Promote patient-centered care and effective communication across care settings.
Performance & Operational Support
• Maintain awareness of empirical outcomes and institutional metrics to inform care and support best practices.

EDUCATION
  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred: two years of clinical nursing experience in Preoperative Care, Post Anesthesia Care, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, or Surgical Intermediate Care Unit
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and
  • Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire and
  • Required: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following department: Nrsg Post Anesthesia Care Unit (600160). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certification in specialty practice area. Upon Hire
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
