UTMB Health is a $2.2 billion health science center comprised of five schools (medicine, nursing, health professions, graduate biomedical sciences, and public and population health), three institutes and over ten exceptional research centers. UTMB has a long and remarkable history of advancing health sciences education, research, and patient care. It was the first academic health center in Texas and home to the state’s first schools of medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences.

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is a diverse research community with strengths in nuclear architecture, genomics, ancient DNA, structural biology, infectious disease, biophysics, and quantitative biology. In addition to a highly collaborative environment, UTMB offers many outstanding research facilities and benefits from adjacency to the Galveston National Laboratory which houses one of only two laboratories conducting research on a university campus at the BSL-4 level in the United States.

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UTMB Health invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at all ranks; assistant, associate, or full professor, in the broad research areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, and computational biology. Areas of particular interest include genomics, artificial intelligence, and single cell and spatial methods. A Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) is required. Successful candidates are expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program. These positions are anticipated to begin in Fall 2026.
