Position Overview

Tommy’s Express Car Wash is seeking a skilled and reliable Multi-Site Maintenance Technician to support operational uptime, wash quality, and preventative maintenance across multiple locations in the Des Moines metro. This position plays a critical role in keeping equipment running efficiently while supporting site leadership and maintaining a high-quality guest experience.

Pay Range: $28–$32 per hour (based on experience)

This is a full-time position supporting multiple locations including West Des Moines, Grimes, and Waukee.

Schedule Expectations

1. Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week
2. Evening and after-hours work required to support maintenance needs
3. Schedule may vary based on operational priorities and project scope
4. Participation in an emergency on-call rotation required

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitor wash equipment during operating hours and maintain wash quality standards
2. Perform preventative maintenance and major repairs after site closure
3. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems
4. Utilize MaintainX to manage work orders, updates, and maintenance tracking
5. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
6. Communicate daily with Site Leaders regarding equipment performance and repair priorities

Qualifications

1. Mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment maintenance or repair
2. Experience with plumbing and electrical systems desired
3. Ability to work independently across multiple locations
4. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
5. Comfortable working evenings and occasional emergency call response
6. Experience with car wash systems, industrial equipment, or similar environments preferred

Standard Operating Schedule & Expectations

Role Overview

The Multi-Site Maintenance Technician supports operational uptime, wash quality, and preventative maintenance across all assigned locations. This role focuses on maintaining equipment performance during operating hours and completing major repairs and preventative maintenance after site closure.

Primary objectives include:

1. Maintaining consistent wash quality standards
2. Minimizing downtime across all locations
3. Completing preventative maintenance routines
4. Managing and updating maintenance workflows within MaintainX

Standard Weekly Schedule

On-Site Work Schedule (40 Hours)

Monday – Friday: Consistent 40 hour schedule.

Start and end times may be adjusted based on project needs at each location, especially when additional time is required while the site is closed. A full 40-hour work week remains the standard expectation. For example: If need 4 hours to complete an after hours project, schedule would shift to 4:00 start time, 12:00 end time.

Daily Work Structure

Operating Hours Support & Preparation

1. Review open tickets in MaintainX
2. Monitor wash equipment while operating
3. Create any additional work orders required
4. Make any wash quality adjustments that can be completed during peak operations
5. Complete repairs that can be done while operational
6. Compile needed material lists for upcoming maintenance projects

Light Traffic Repairs & Project Prep

1. Complete repairs that can be performed while site traffic is lighter
2. Prepare for after-hours projects

After-Close Maintenance

1. Perform major repairs requiring wash shutdown
2. Conduct preventative inspections and maintenance
3. Thoroughly test all repairs after completion
4. Clean and restore work areas post-project
5. Organize and return all tools to proper storage
6. Update MaintainX comment sections and complete all appropriate tickets

Weekend Coverage Expectations

Saturday — OFF / Tommy’s Emergency On-Call

We have on-call coverage covered this day.

Sunday — Emergency On-Call

Operating Hours: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Response Expectations:

1. Immediate phone response when contacted
2. 30-minute in-person on-site response time for emergency situations impacting operations

Performance Expectations

1. Maintain accurate and timely updates within MaintainX
2. Communicate daily with Operations regarding equipment status
3. Prioritize preventative maintenance to reduce downtime
4. Maintain safe, organized, and clean work environments across all sites
