The Vision
KDFW FOX 4 is seeking a forward-thinking Chief Photographer to lead our award-winning visual team into the next generation of news. We aren’t just looking for a manager; we are looking for a visual architect who will bridge the gap between traditional broadcast excellence and the frontier of streaming and social media.
As the Chief, you will be the catalyst for change—empowering a veteran crew with new technologies, fostering a digital-first storytelling culture, and ensuring FOX 4 remains the visual leader in one of the nation's most competitive markets.
Key Leadership & Innovation Responsibilities
- Transformational Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of photojournalists. You will move beyond "scheduling" to active coaching—conducting regular critiques and workshops to elevate the station's visual brand.
- Next-Gen News Gathering: Lead the deployment of IP-based systems, cellular delivery, and emerging technologies. You will identify and implement tools that streamline content creation for FOX 4’s streaming platforms and social media channels.
- Visual Identity & Quality Control: Set and maintain the highest standards for visual storytelling. You will ensure that every frame—whether on a 70-inch 4K TV or a smartphone screen—reflects the urgency and quality of the FOX 4 brand.
- Strategic Fleet & Gear Management: Partner with Engineering to modernize our ENG fleet and field gear. You will turn our mobile units into agile, high-tech hubs capable of sophisticated multi-platform distribution.
- Operational Excellence: Manage administrative duties, including scheduling and safety compliance, with a focus on efficiency and proactive problem-solving.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strategic Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in video/audio production and transmission (Satellite, Cellular Bonding, and IP-based workflows).
- Digital Fluency: A strong understanding of how visual storytelling differs across platforms (Broadcast vs. YouTube vs. TikTok/Instagram).
- High-Pressure Leadership: The ability to make critical, calm decisions during breaking news and emergency scenarios.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to act as the primary liaison between field crews and News Management.
Education & Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a high-intensity television broadcast environment (Top 25 market experience preferred).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Radio/TV, or a related field.
- The "X" Factor: A proven track record of successfully integrating new technologies into a legacy newsroom environment.
