1 Scope of Job The Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems (IES) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks applicants for one or more faculty positions in the broad area of Cybersecurity and Informatics. Successful candidates will be expected to teach and build research programs in the general area of cybersecurity. The Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems currently has fifteen faculty members and offers several degree programs and research opportunities in the field of Informatics, Cyber Security, and Engineering Technology. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (automation), and a Master of Science in Informatics. The department offers research opportunities in cybersecurity, informatics, and engineering systems. Our programs prepare students for careers in industry and graduate study in informatics, engineering systems, and technology-related fields. We are actively pursuing program development at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of cybersecurity, informatics, and engineering systems. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited university. Credit will be given for a master's degree from an accredited university, combined with a minimum of five years of significant industry experience in cybersecurity-related policy, law, risk management, and auditing in place of a Ph.D. Candidates for assistant professor of practice must have significant industry experience and a commitment to excellence in teaching and service. Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain an active research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects. A successful candidate must demonstrate having achieved (or a potential to achieve) excellence and balance in teaching, research, and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines, and an ability to involve undergraduate students as well as graduate students in research activities. Cybersecurity certifications are a definite plus. Preferred Qualifications The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in Cybersecurity, Informatics, and Computer Science. License or Certification Required?

11/15/2025 Additional Information UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
