Title: Automation & Controls Engineer

Location: Frisco, TX

Salary: $120,000

The company develops and manufactures highly specialized machinery, automation systems, software, and production solutions used in ophthalmics, precision optics, and ultra-precision optics. Its technologies support the production of prescription lenses, medical optics, photonics components, imaging systems, aerospace optics, and other high-precision optical products. The Frisco operation serves as a key hub for automation, system integration, project execution, customer support, and field implementation activities across North America and international markets.

In this role, you will lead the successful implementation, troubleshooting, optimization, and customer-facing execution of complex automation and controls projects across high-performance industrial systems.

Job Duties:

  • Lead controls and automation activities for large-scale machinery and integrated systems, including commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, testing, and customer acceptance.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource during project execution, working directly with customers, contractors, and internal engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex controls, networking, motion control, and system performance issues while minimizing downtime and maintaining project schedules.
  • Support warehouse automation, conveyor, material handling, and intelligent routing systems through installation, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage project documentation, schedules, risk identification, and technical communication while maintaining visibility across all phases of project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation, controls, system integration, material handling, conveyor systems, warehouse automation, or similar industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, VFDs, motors, sensors, encoders, and integrated automation systems.
  • Experience with Beckhoff controls and TwinCAT 3 strongly preferred; additional PLC platform experience is highly valued.
  • Exceptional communication, customer-facing leadership, project management, and organizational skills, with the confidence to lead discussions, manage expectations, and drive projects to completion.
