Learning Support Coordinator

Position Purpose :

The Learning Support Coordinator leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of support services for students with learning differences from Kindergarten through 8th Grade, in alignment with the Waldorf educational philosophy. This role involves overseeing the identification and assessment of students with learning differences, providing leadership in developing individualized support plans, and ensuring that students have access to appropriate resources. The coordinator works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and outside specialists to foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment that encourages the academic and personal growth of all students.

The Learning Support Coordinator's Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate student support services for students with learning differences, ensuring that they receive appropriate interventions in a timely and effective manner.
  • Supervise the Student Support team to ensure that all support programs are properly executed.
  • Lead the development and implementation of individualized learning plans for students requiring additional academic assistance, ensuring that plans are aligned with Waldorf education principles.
  • Conduct and oversee assessments for students with learning differences, ensuring appropriate methods and tools (e.g. non-standardized assessments, Waldorf-compatible tools) are used to identify learning challenges early.
  • Support early identification and intervention, including providing guidance to teachers on assessment techniques and early intervention strategies for students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade.
  • Provide professional development for faculty and staff on supporting students with learning differences, including strategies for classroom accommodations, differentiation, and implementing multi-sensory teaching techniques.
  • Ensure a coordinated approach between teachers, parents, and outside specialists to support the academic and emotional development of students with learning differences.
  • Manage communication with parents, ensuring they are informed of their child's progress, and support them in understanding and implementing strategies to help at home.
  • Participate in Care Group meetings and work with teachers to identify students in need of additional support, ensuring that interventions are being implemented as necessary.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning support interventions, making recommendations for adjustments and improvements.
  • Collaborate with outside specialists (e.g. educational diagnosticians, therapists) to bring additional support and resources to the school as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education and student support services, including maintaining appropriate records and documentation.
  • Facilitate the transition of students with learning differences into High School, ensuring that they have the support they need to succeed in their next educational setting.
  • Uphold school policies and procedures, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment for all students.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, assessments, and other sensitive information, in accordance with professional ethics and legal standards.
  • Ensure that all program charges are clearly communicated to families and that parental consent is obtained prior to enrolling children in the program.

Professional Requirements :

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with children with learning differences in an educational setting, including leadership or coordination experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, special education, child development, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience in Waldorf education and a deep understanding of its principles, developmental stages, and individualized learning approaches.
  • Training in assessing and supporting learning differences, including dyslexia, ADHD, and other developmental delays or challenges.
  • Experience with various intervention programs (e.g. HANDLE, Bal-A-Vis-X, Extra Lesson, Curative Eurythmy) and understanding their application within the Waldorf approach.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and outside professionals.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a compassionate, student-centered approach to supporting diverse learners.
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency with educational tools and record-keeping systems.
