Critical Systems Electrical Technician II, Battery
Join a leading provider of critical power solutions as a Critical Systems Technician II, Battery, based in Dallas, TX. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting essential infrastructure. The role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and certification of battery systems for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, ensuring reliability for mission-critical environments. The position offers hands-on experience, opportunities for skill development, and the chance to work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative and safety-focused environment. Expect approximately 50% travel to customer sites, contributing to a dynamic and varied work experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with battery replacements and new installations for UPS systems.
- Support preventative and scheduled maintenance of battery systems with minimal disruption to customers.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site during all phases of work.
- Follow operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure safety and compliance.
- Interact professionally with internal teams and external customers.
- Assist in the warehouse and support other service divisions (Switch Gear, Operations, HVAC) as needed.
- Utilize hand tools and general maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Work from schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Learn and perform battery disconnection/connection, rack building, and spill containment system installation.
- Collect and enter test readings and maintenance data using a laptop computer.
- Gain experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on DC battery systems.
- Adhere strictly to facility work rules and safety procedures, including the use of PPE.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Travel approximately 50% or more to customer sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of, or willingness to learn, AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
- Ability to safely operate department equipment and use hand tools.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Completion of OSHA 10-hour certification and NFPA-70E Safety Training (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to use digital multimeters, amp clamps, flexible CTs, and battery testing equipment (training provided).
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, battery string connections (series, parallel, series-parallel).
- Familiarity with safety practices, including the use of isolation devices and PPE.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Ability to obtain security clearance is preferred.
