Overview
Join our compassionate team as a Personal Care Assistant in our Dementia Day Center, where your care, patience, and dedication will make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals living with dementia. In this rewarding role, you will provide hands-on personal care, support engaging daily activities, and help create a safe, welcoming environment that promotes dignity, independence, and joy.
As part of our mission-driven team, you will work closely with participants, families, volunteers, and staff to ensure each individual receives person-centered care and meaningful opportunities for connection and engagement throughout the day.
Responsibilities
- Assist participants with personal care needs, including toileting, eating, mobility assistance, and other activities of daily living while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Support the planning, preparation, and implementation of daily activity programs designed to encourage engagement, socialization, and well-being.
- Use effective, person-centered dementia care techniques to support participants throughout the day.
- Provide protective supervision and ensure participant safety at all times.
- Accurately document care provided and activity participation in accordance with Day Center policies and state licensing requirements.
- Foster a positive, welcoming, and cheerful environment for participants, families, volunteers, and staff.
- Assist volunteers and provide guidance regarding Day Center activities and participant support.
- Maintain safety and sanitation standards by assisting with cleaning, organization, and general facility upkeep.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure a structured, supportive, and enriching Day Center experience.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support overall Day Center operations.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with older adults, preferably individuals living with dementia.
- Experience or training in caregiving, activity programming, senior services, or related fields preferred.
- Willingness and ability to provide hands-on personal care assistance.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Patience, compassion, and sensitivity when supporting individuals with varying care needs.
- English proficiency required; bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Relevant certifications in caregiving, dementia care, or related fields are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs as needed.
- Ability to push, pull, and carry supplies and equipment.
- Ability to safely assist participants with mobility and transfers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of heavier items as necessary.
