Research Coordinator I - Pediatrics Nutrition - On Site (Part-time)
Summary
Dr. Erica Soltero is an assistant professor at the Children’s Nutrition Research Center in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. Her research focuses on implementing community-based diabetes prevention programs for Hispanic youth and families. This work involves behavioral studies that investigate the influence of physical activity and sedentary behaviors on the development and prevention of type 2 diabetes. It also includes qualitative research aimed at identifying social determinants of health that influence diabetes risk in Hispanic youth and families.
Dr. Soltero is currently seeking to hire a Research Coordinator who will participate in daily research activities, which include a variety of job duties centered on participant recruitment, establishing and maintaining community partnerships, data collection, project materials development, and working collaboratively with a team to implement diabetes prevention programming.
This is a part-time position and does not include benefits.
Job Duties
Coordinates day-to-day activities of research protocols, including calling, screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. Ensures accurate data collection, documentation, organization, and safety of research participants. Ensures that project goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, funding constraints, and other specifications. Implements ongoing interventions or experiments.
Duties include:
- Interview, screen, and recruit participants for studies.
- Explain processes and procedures to educate participants about the research study and obtain informed consent.
- Collect data and documents from participants and enter information into a database.
- May collect samples using point-of-care devices, process them, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in the study protocol. On-the-job training for these activities will be provided.
- May obtain vital signs and measure anthropometrics (e.g., weight, height, waist circumference) from participants. On-the-job training for these activities will be provided.
- Maintain records and regulatory documents for research studies.
- Schedule research participants for tests and procedures such as lab tests, intervention sessions, and other study-specific activities.
- Facilitate relationships with clinics and other community-based resources for recruitment and data collection.
- Work with the principal investigator to complete IRB protocols, modifications, and continuing reviews.
- Coordinate and assist with project meetings, including preparing meeting minutes and presentations.
- Correspond and act as a liaison for participants, investigators, IRB, sponsors, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain project resources, including facilitating orders for supplies and equipment.
- Assist in developing manuscripts, progress reports, and grants by creating data tables, conducting literature reviews, and formatting manuscripts.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in psychology, human biology, kinesiology, or another health-related field. No experience required with preferred degree.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
- Background in community health or nutrition to assist in implementing intervention content for community members.
Work Authorization Requirement:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
